Maxwell® RSC 48 Instrument and Maxprep™ Liquid Handler

Together the Maxwell® RSC 48 Instrument and Maxprep™ Liquid Handler from Promega provide higher throughput, approachable automation for the entire nucleic acid extraction workflow. The Maxprep Liquid Handler automatically prepares samples and Maxwell cartridges for direct placement onto the Maxwell RSC or the new Maxwell RSC 48 Instrument. Promega’s Portal software provides a connected laboratory of instruments and allows for sample tracking information to be passed from one instrument to the next.

The Maxprep Liquid Handler also accommodates sample preparation for post-extraction processes such as transfers, quantitation dye additions, normalization, and a variety of PCR reaction setups. The Maxwell RSC 48 offers a higher throughput Maxwell platform capable of processing any number of samples from one to 48 using the current Maxwell RSC Kits.  For more information, please visit

New Open-Platform Single-Cell Automation System

To advance the understanding of cell diversity and how that diversity impacts complex cellular functions, including interactions with other cells and molecules, growth, and disease states, Takara Bio USA, Inc., (TBUSA, formerly Clontech Laboratories, Inc.), a wholly owned subsidiary of Takara Bio Inc., is proud to announce the launch of the SMARTer™ ICELL8® cx System.

This new open-platform, high-throughput single-cell automation system allows researchers to gain greater confidence in the results of their single-cell analyses by using innovative technologies that allow only the most informative cells to be processed and analyzed. While the system will come prevalidated with several SMARTer® applications, it will also provide the flexibility to enable users to develop applications of their choice.

The SMARTer ICELL8 cx System includes a built-in imaging station and software analysis tool to visualize individual nanowells and process the images to differentiate single cells from empty wells or wells containing multiple cells. The multicolor imaging capability also provides the opportunity to perform applications like live-dead differentiation using suitable dyes. For more information, please visit

First cGMP Human Mesenchymal Stem Cell Banks

RoosterBio has launched the only commercially-available working cell banks (WCBs) for large-scale hMSC production. Introduced under the CliniControl™ brand name, these hMSC WCBs are manufactured to current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) and conform to xeno-free (XF) guidelines, as outlined by the International Society for Cellular Therapies. CliniControl hMSCs are supported for use as a cellular starting material for therapeutic cell manufacturing by quality and regulatory documentation, which facilitates IND filings.

This next-generation product offering is a momentous paradigm shift in stem cell supply chain logistics. To date, each organization seeking to run a clinical trial for an hMSC-based therapeutic has had to manufacture its own cell banks, creating great redundancy in the field. With CliniControl hMSCs, product developers bypass time-intensive and costly steps in master and WCB generation, characterization, testing, and release. Implementation of CliniControl hMSCs establishes a streamlined, comprehensive, qualified stem cell supply chain. For more information, please visit
