Zika Virus Reference Materials for Improved Diagnostic Testing

SeraCare Life Sciences is launching a set of unique Zika virus products as critical components of a robust QC program for validating and monitoring Zika virus test methods. These new innovative products provide highly characterized Zika IgM materials as well as safe to handle recombinant virus that can be used as positive reference materials for Zika diagnostic assays.

SeraCare has developed the AccuSet™ Zika Performance Panel, which is a comprehensive 10-member panel consisting of patient samples demonstrating a range of reactivity for Zika IgM antibodies, and assessed for cross-reactivity to dengue and chikungunya. This panel is intended for use by researchers, diagnostic manufacturers, and clinical laboratories to develop, evaluate, and validate Zika serological test methods. The panel members have been comprehensively tested following the recommended CDC algorithm and using several commercially available methods. This unprecedented panel of Zika IgM materials will ensure test method validation specific to Zika IgM reactivity and rule out cross-reactivity to related flaviviruses. Innovative New Concept in Biological Manufacturing and Development

Lonza has launched Ibex™ Solutions, coupling flexibility in facility-build-out with fully tailored business models and leveraging Lonza's expertise and service network in Visp, Switzerland. Construction began in June with a formal groundbreaking ceremony expected in the second half of 2017. Several hundred new positions are expected to be created.

Ibex biomanufacturing comprises a modular, technology-independent development and manufacturing complex capable of supporting activities across multiple technologies – mammalian, microbial, cellular, or bio-conjugate – and from late discovery to manufacture. This flexibility gives customers complete freedom in facility design and implementation, and the ability to respond rapidly as their needs evolve. Responsiveness is further enhanced by the integration of the Ibex™ biomanufacturing complex into the Visp site with its experienced workforce and established service networks.

Proprietary Bioreactor Control System

Pall Corporation introduces the mPath™ bioreactor control system, a first-of-its-kind solution to deliver accurate measurement and control of single-use process development-scale bioprocesses. It will support the Allegro™ XRS 25 bioreactor, with further expansions planned for the mPath portfolio in 2017 and beyond.

An expandable control and data management system includes both bioreactor control towers and an advanced supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) software package. The mPath control tower is cleanroom-ready after being IP54 designed and tested, and comes with features such as six mass flow controllers (MFCs) as standard. There are three variable speed pumps for feeds, titrants, and media fills, and three biocontainer hangers with integrated load cells to organize and weigh titrants, feeds, and media with a minimal footprint.
