Enhanced Validation Tubing Products for Bioprocessing Applications
Saint-Gobain’s Life Sciences business unit introduces the ValPlus™ family of tubing products for critical fluid applications. ValPlus products are available with an enhanced level of validation documentation, providing the highest level of assurance of cleanliness and compliance to industry guidelines.

The fluid path of the tubing has been validated using a single, normal ANSI Level II sampling plan to meet the sub-visible particulate, endotoxin, and bioburden requirements outlined in USP and ISO 11737. Further, an annual testing program has been established to routinely monitor compliance to these test specifications. The annual testing program is available for review during an onsite audit.

ValPlus certification is now available for select sizes and formulations of industry leading brands, including C-Flex® and Sani-Tech® tubings and hoses, with a plan to expand the ValPlus service to additional product families including PharmaPure® and PharMed® TPE tubing products, as well as Sani-Tech Ultra® silicone products.

New High Performance Filtration Plates

Biotage has launched ISOLUTE® FILTER+ high performance filtration plates for the processing of samples prior to UPLC-MS/MS, alongside a diverse range of other filtration applications. Each plate contains a 0.2 µm membrane filter for particulate removal, topped by a depth filter to prevent blocking of the membrane. ISOLUTE offers improved workflow compared to filtration vials or syringe type filters, and allows high-throughput filtration for UPLC analysis.

The new plates are designed to prevent sample particulates from reaching the UPLC column, protecting the analytical system from particulate build up over time. The filtration membrane is wettable, eliminating the need for pre-wetting; and narrow plate outlets direct sample flow into the collection plate without sputtering, eliminating cross talk between samples.

ISOLUTE FILTER+ plates can be processed using 96-well compatible positive pressure manifolds, vacuum manifolds, and automated liquid handling systems. Typically, sample volumes of up to 1500 µL (total volume) can be processed using this product. For more information, please visit

Breakthrough Cell Biomass Sensor for On-Line Fermentation Monitoring

BugLab LLC introduces the proBE 3000, the first on-line sensor capable of accurately measuring cell biomass over the full range of process conditions typically encountered during microbial fermentations in small (≤250 mL) to large-scale (≥100 L) vessels.  

Traditional on-line Optical Density (OD) probes provide linear response over about one order of magnitude biomass range, whereas fermentations commonly span more than 3 orders of magnitude. Multiple OD probes are sometimes employed to fill the gaps, but this approach is costly and burdensome. Further, accurate on-line monitoring requires immunity to varying rates of gassing and agitation. As a result, off-line measurement has long been the preferred method. The down-side of off-line sampling is that it is labor-intensive, invasive, and prone to user error.

The proBE 3000 sensor eliminates the need to perform off-line cell biomass testing or use multiple on-line biomass probes. Just one proBE 3000 provides a linear range of cell biomass from less than 0.01 to over 200 g/L dry cell weight (roughly equivalent to 0.03 to 600 OD at 600 nm) while maintaining strong immunity to changes in process variables such as agitation and gassing rate.
