Dual 0.2 µm Membrane Sterilization Filter Cartridge

For more information, please visit
Porvair Filtration Group has introduced its Hydrofil HTZ dual 0.2 µm membrane sterilization filter cartridge that incorporates a pharmaceutical grade, positively charged Nylon 6,6 membrane. The positive zeta-potential of the nylon membrane enables effective reduction of most endotoxins derived from bacteria, which typically have a negative charge in water. The dual membrane design results in a significant increase in the endotoxin adsorption capacity of the filter.

Applications for Hydrofil HTZ filters include GMP pharmaceutical grade water systems where endotoxin levels need to be kept below Limulus Amebocyte Lysate (LAL) assay detection limits, and endotoxin removal from parenteral products. Filter component materials are approved by the FDA, and meet the United States Pharmacopeia Class VI standards.
Gene-Editing Platform
Horizon Discovery has announced licensing agreements with Harvard University for a Clustered Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeats (CRISPR) gene-editing technology, and Sigma-Aldrich for use of its CompoZr® zinc finger nuclease (ZFN) technology. CRISPR, an RNA-guided gene-editing system, is useful for introducing either a targeted double strand break or single strand nick in the genome of mammalian cells.
Zinc fingers are transcription factors with each finger module recognizing a three to four base gene sequence. The CRISPR and ZFN are available in Horizon’s GENESIS™ recombinant adeno-associated virus (rAAV) technology gene-editing platform. This platform offers researchers a toolbox capable of performing rapid functional genomics and creating high-precision human disease models. Horizon plans to launch a range of rAAV, CRISPR, and hybrid rAAV/CRISPR gene-editing kits and associated reagents.
