Simultaneous Measurement of Cardiomyocyte Contractility and Electrophysiology
ACEA Biosciences, Inc. has introduced the xCELLigence® RTCA CardioECR System, the first platform to combine impedance and multi-electrode array (MEA) technology with a pacing function. The system is designed to be placed in a standard tissue culture incubator with physiological temperature, CO2 level, and humidity, allowing for better-controlled assays with both short and long-term measurements in real-time.

The platform’s combined dual readout system provides cardiomyocyte viability measurements of lengthier durations, offering the potential for identifying those compounds responsible for longer-term structural damage to cardiomyocytes. The CardioECR System allows for a deeper assessment of mechanism of toxicity, which is vital to researchers involved in complex biologic and small molecule pharmaceutical development.

Sartorius Stedim Biotech presents the BIOSTAT® A, the compact bioreactor/fermenter designed specifically for bench-scale and educational use. The system's control tower features a complete array of measurement and control functions such as: easy-load peristaltic pumps, an aeration module, and simple-to-access probe ports and supply connections. For on-the-go operation, a tablet or smartphone option is available.

Even beginners can successfully operate the system in a very short amount of time thanks to an intuitive user interface. The BIOSTAT A comes in two different versions: one for cell culture applications, and the other, microbial fermentation. It uses either UniVessel® glass (1, 2, or 5 L maximum working volumes) or disposable UniVessel SU culture vessels (2 L maximum working volume).
Ductless Fume Hood Optimized for Portability
Air Science USA has introduced its new portable, ductless fume hood. The mobile EDU™ Series is excellent for classroom demonstrations and industrial training. It is totally self-contained and provides all-around visibility. The multi-layered EDU filter has been independently tested to have 99.9% filtration efficiency for those chemicals normally found in a typical chemistry curriculum.

EDU's ductless design allows for simple installation, and the base is mounted on large, heavy-duty wheels for smooth mobility. The height is 77.5", which allows for easy passage through a standard door, from lab-to-lab. EDU Series units exceed OSHA, ANSI, BSI, and AFNOR safety standards.
